At the beginning of each year, a series of legislative changes in labor and social legislation are anticipated. In the following article, we will present the most significant changes that came into effect from the beginning of 2024.
- The minimum wage increases from BGN 780 to BGN 933.
- The maximum social security income for all insured persons increases from BGN 3,400 to BGN 3,750.
- The minimum social security income for farmers and tobacco producers increases from BGN 780 to BGN 933.
- The percentage of the social security contribution for the "Pensions" fund remains at the 2023 level:
- For individuals born on or before December 31, 1959, inclusive - 19.8%;
- For individuals born after December 31, 1959 - 14.8%.
- The ratios between contributors and insured persons remain unchanged.
- The amount of the social security contribution for the "Accidents at Work and Occupational Diseases" fund is determined by groups of main economic activities for 2024, as per Appendix No. 2.
- No contributions are made to the "Guaranteed Receivables of Workers and Employees" fund in 2024.
- The maximum amount of guaranteed receivables has increased from BGN 2,332.50 in 2023 to BGN 2,332.50.
- The required age and insurance period for retirement increase for all categories of labor:

- From the beginning of 2024, the minimum pension amount for insurance period and age at full insurance period increases from BGN 523.04 to BGN 580.57. The maximum amount of received one or more pensions remains at BGN 3,400. The social old-age pension increases to BGN 307.07.
- The minimum daily unemployment benefit increases by BGN 18, and the maximum daily amount increases to BGN 107.14.
- The poverty line in the country increases from BGN 504 to BGN 526.
- The one-time childbirth allowance for 2024 is BGN 375 for the first child, BGN 900 for the second, BGN 450 for the third, and BGN 300 for the fourth and each subsequent child.
- The compensation amount for raising a child up to 2 years old and for raising a child up to 8 years old by the father (adopter) remains unchanged at BGN 780 in 2024.
- The period for receiving cash compensation for pregnancy and childbirth remains at 410 days.
- The amount of the one-time assistance in case of the death of an insured person remains unchanged at BGN 540.
- The payment regime for cash benefits for temporary incapacity for work changes, with the first 2 days covered by the employer at 70% of the average daily gross remuneration, and from the third day, it is paid by the NRA at 80% of the average daily gross remuneration for the last 18 months.
- For the days of individuals on unpaid leave, health insurance is due from the employer in an increased amount on BGN 466.50. For the days of individuals on temporary incapacity due to illness, pregnancy, childbirth, and caring for a small child, health insurance is due on BGN 933.
